'I Thought It Was Really Funny, but No One Else Did'

"Mondays are tough. Mondays are when I'm on lockdown. The goal is to sit there, by myself, making myself laugh," Joe Dator says, describing the lead up to his weekly Tuesday deadline to submit work to the New Yorker. This short documentary provides some insight into what it takes to be a regular contributor to the magazine (see his published work here): creativity, persistence, and lots of coffee. 

This documentary portrait is from a series called New Yorkers (not affiliated with the magazine), an ongoing project from Moonshot Productions. The creators of the series discuss the project in an interview with the Atlantic Video channel here and you can watch more episodes here

Post-Current, she worked as a producer and strategist at Urgent Content, developing consumer-created and branded nonfiction campaigns for clients including Cisco, Ford, and GOOD Magazine. She studied filmmaking and digital media at Harvard University, where she was co-creator and editor in chief of H BOMB Magazine.
